Go on a ‘Vegas Vacation’ with SCB

Post reads "Vegas Vacation; Friday, November 14 at Southwest High School". Background is red with playing cards falling from above

The Seward Concert Band is thrilled to invite you on an exciting journey as we launch our 49th musical season together. We’re musically headed to Las Vegas, experiencing all the sites, sounds, and adventure of the city.

Our ‘Vegas Vacation’ concert is scheduled for Friday, November 14 at 7:30 pm at Southwest High School – 3414 West 47th Street in Minneapolis. Suggested donations are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 students and children.

Our road trip includes a march in tribute to the American automobile (and its horn), and a tour of famous pieces from classic western films. We will live it up with classic Las Vegas acts such as Frank Sinatra and ‘Rat Pack’ jazz.

We’ll close our performance with composer Eric Whitacre’s legendary tribute to both Las Vegas and kaiju, Godzilla Eats Las Vegas. In this multimedia piece, you’ll hear tributes to Vegas legends such as Elvis, Wayne Newton, and Liberace as Godzilla lays waste to the city. Tell your friends – it’s an exciting show you won’t want to miss!

Tentative Program

  • Sinatra! arranged by Stephen Bulla
  • Star Dust, by Hoagy Carmichael
  • Klaxon March, by Henry Fillmore
  • Go West! arranged by Ralph Ford
  • Smokey Joe’s Cafe, by Michael Stoller
  • Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, by Eric Whitacre

Music planned for this year includes the timeless tunes of Broadway, before being transported to the realms of their favorite video games, and jazz pieces that have stood the test of time. Plus many of our favorite classics.

Our COVID policies will remain as they were at the end of last season:

  • Provide proof of COVID Vaccination (those who haven’t previously been checked)
  • Use sanitary means of spit disposal – disposable pads are available.
